New Rochelle interim Schools Superintendent Alex Marrero issued a notice to the community late on Tuesday, Nov. 17 advising that a student at New Rochelle High School tested positive for COVID-19.

The student was last in the building on Friday, Nov. 13 prior to his positive test, and contact tracing is ongoing to determine which students, teachers, or staff members may have been exposed.

Marrero said that approximately 130 students and 29 staff members will have to quarantine. In all, about 500 students who had been attending in person will have to switch to all-virtual learning until Monday, Nov. 30.

Anyone who was near the infected student will have to quarantine from Tuesday through Friday, Nov. 27. They will be permitted to return to in-person learning on Nov. 30, provided they do not develop symptoms or test positive for COVID-19.

The district’s custodial crews are concentrating their efforts in the areas impacted.

"Please be aware: It is still vitally important for staff members and parents of students to report all positive cases to the district,” Marrero reiterated. “This is the only way we can ensure that we are responding appropriately to this ever-changing health crisis.”
